Your Data

The Missed Steps application is a scholarship and grant search engine intended for use by college students who possess either a GED or Highschool Diploma and adults currently in or planning to enter the workforce.

To best match users with prospective local and national scholarship and grant opportunities, we ask for personal information such as the user's:

  • prospective college choices
  • major of interest
  • current education level

Select curated awards in our database are tailored for prospective recipients who possess a variety of qualifying criteria. These criteria include, but are not limited to the user's:

  • prior military service
  • demonstrated financial need
  • current employment status
  • general location (Example: a scholarship, grant or award may only be available to students in a particular county, such as Mecklenburg or Cabarrus)
  • country of origin
  • religious affiliation
  • current and future educational interests

We do not currently, and will not in the future, sell user data to third parties for any reason. Our purpose is to help our users pay for schooling and other educational ventures, not to profit of off the sale or misuse of their information.

We do not currently conduct financial transactions of any kind via this application.

Correspondence and Support

We will not reach out to any user via telephone or physical mail unless explicitly requested. Requests for correspondence via telephone or physical mail may be forwarded to admin@missedsteps.org.

Errors, concerns or issues with the application may also be sent to admin@missedsteps.org at any time.

Though we do our best to keep our scholarship database up to date with the latest information we can find, we also rely on companies and sponsors to let us know of opportunities that may be of interest to our users. Any third parties interested in offering a scholarship, grant or other type of award for our users should contact us at awards@missedsteps.org.

Advertising

We do not currently utilize in-app advertising. However we do reserve the right to show advertising for products and/or services that we believe are in line with our mission to help our users reach their educational goals.

Elevated, Restricted or Otherwise Obscured Access

The Missed Steps application is free to use and does not charge for access to additional functionality. This application does require an account to be created to maintain “Favorite Scholarships” pages, “Previous Applications” pages and personal profile data.

Application Permissions

To assist in notifying our current and potential users of best fit opportunities for scholarships and awards, our application requests permission to use email, SMS and network capabilities from a mobile device.

Target Audience

The intended primary audience of this application includes college-age students who have left school or taken a temporary leave of absence and adults who would like to return to college to improve their employment prospects. However, prospective students who do not immediately identify with the stated criteria are greatly encouraged to apply if they should locate an award or grant that they believe is a good fit for them.

We do not and will not intentionally post, endorse or promote mature content or content that could be considered harmful to children.
